How do I sign up for the Flicks4Chicks contest or submit a film in one of the other Casting A Light categories?
You must first create a general account with FilmFreeway. Then, sign up for the F4C contest and/or submit other types of films using the direct link to our FilmFreeway Festival page. Once you are signed up, you can go back into your file at any time and submit your film. Please be sure to fill out all required fields and hit Submit to register.
What is the cost of the Flicks4Chicks contest or to submit a film in another category?
The submission fee is $75.00 paid via FilmFreeway. Any student, any member in good standing of a Women in Film (and Television or Video) chapter, and anyone who is an active member of Harvard Square Script Writers receives a 20% discount. If you are a member of HSSW, contact us at admin@hsswriters.com.
How do I get this discount?
If you have not received the discount code, you must contact your local Women in Film chapter to determine eligibility and code. Or join a chapter (EVERYONE is welcome) to receive the discount.
How long can my film be?
Review the rules for each category of film. Flicks4Chicks contest submissions cannot be longer than 10 minutes. NOTE: there are four other categories under which you can submit films you have already completed. See Casting A Light.
Can my film be of any genre?
Any film submitted can be of any genre. But please be careful to submit NARRATIVE films under one of the two NARRATIVE categories and DOCUMENTARY films under one of the two DOCUMENTARY categories.
Are men permitted to work on the Flicks4Chicks projects?
Absolutely YES. The idea is to have projects built on creative collaborations, not exclusion. The one crew requirement is that at least one lead creative role (producer, director, director of photography, editor) is held by a woman.
Can AFTRA-SAG actors work on my Flicks4Chicks film?
Yes. Use the Short Film Agreement. Your actor payment is deferred. Get started at SAGAFTRA.org or email Jalika.Conteh@sagaftra.org with any questions.
When can I start making my Flicks4Chicks film?
You can start work on your film any time after December 8th, 2017, after your choice of logline has been submitted to us. It may be submitted up until April 20th.
Who owns my Flicks4Chicks film once it is completed and are there any distribution restrictions?
You own your film and have the rights to sell, screen, promote, distribute in any way you see fit. Please see Rules to understand the Festival’s rights to screen. They are explained on FilmFreeway.
I want to submit a film that I made a number of years ago. What is the cut-off for when a film was completed?
Flicks4Chicks films must be made between December 8th, 2017 and May 1st, 2018. All other films can be as old as 40 years. Why? Because we are interested in supporting both older filmmakers and emerging ones. And we believe in the value of lessons that can be learned from both older and newer inspirational stories.
How will the awards be given out?
The 2018 Different Faces Different Voices Film Festival will be held from June 27th to June 29th, 2018, in Cambridge, MA. Awards (whether cash or prizes) will be given to the person responsible, e.g., Best Editor will go to the winning editor, Best Film to the producer of record/team leader, etc.
If I win an award but cannot attend the Festival, how will I receive it?
Award-winners who cannot attend the festival will receive their awards via mail within 30 days of the ceremony’s end. NOTE: you will be responsible for mailing costs.
